Double matting technique.

Once the framer grasps what a double mat actually is the proper way to cut it seems clear. Double knitting allows you to create two layers of fabric at the same time with only one pair of needles. It s an easy affordable and a more unique way to add a little something extra to the finished product. A double mat is not what many people think it is.

Stockinette stitch on both sides. Bevel cut to give your photo a professional finish. If you re new to the world of custom framing you may not have come across double matting before. Thicker 4 ply mat board with 1 6 or 0 0625 thickness each.

The finished fabric is entirely reversible lending itself to colorwork contrasting fibers or simply a finished piece that is twice as warm. A double mat never involves cutting through two thicknesses of mat board. Rather a double mat is just two single mats stacked together two single mats with two different size windows stacked together so the window of the under mat appears as a band of color around the inside of the window of the over mat. Just take two mats of the same overall size.
