Thoroughly paint all exposed edges and grooves. Bring a small piece of clean siding to the hardware store and ask them to match exterior paint with an eggshell finish to the siding. Cut piece of faded siding from an inconspicuous spot to replace the damaged section. It ll better match the house than brand new siding.

Make your repair last. Do not drive the nails flush or countersink them. Pull siding away from house and cut through the bottom edge with aviation snips. The heads will break the paper face allowing water to soak in and deteriorate the siding.

Start at the bottom of the piece that is being replaced and insert a wooden shim between the pieces of siding as the zip tool slides along the siding. Use a zip tool image 1 to unlock the siding from the surrounding pieces image 2. Holes dents and other damage to siding can usually be fixed quickly and inexpensively. These small repairs can add years to the life of the siding.

Prime the back and edges of the new siding. A new generation of wood fillers hardeners and epoxies fill holes and firm up soft spots so they are as strong as the original wood. Repeat the procedure for the top of the damaged siding.
